Rock those ol’ skool jams

One of my lecturers was wearing this pair of really ol’ skool LA Gear kicks which had the gills at the sides. Didn’t really go up to him to take it but he kept it in really good condition.

It’s either he’s ol’ skool or traveled through time, man.

He even tucked his cuffs into those kicks too for the authentic MC Hammer look. Outrageous.

Ppis

(Zhak and me are shoulda’ ta’ shoulda with the Giant to the left of us)

Upon Zhak’s request, here is the photo that I’ve zapped from the annals of my Ol’ Shoe Box of Ol’ Stuf’ (seriously,I’ve labeled the box with that title).

Ahh..the good ol’ days of Persatuan Pemudi Islam Singapura (PPIS) kindergarten. Zhak and me were in the same class and we didn’t realize til he brought it up way back after we left college. We BOTH were good-looking lil’ young ‘uns, weren’t we? (I reckon, we still are)

About those days, the only things I can vaguely remember are, me gettin’ a ride home in someone’s car, me cookin’ a storm in class of baked apples and waffles, runnin’ on the field with the then-ultra-uber plastic playground, a classmate of mine gettin’ dropped by a couple of thugs and embarassingly, me pissin’ my pants during a day trip to somewhere I can’t remember.

I’ve only recently discovered that a couple of Zhak’s closest friends are in that class too and surprisingly, one of my sis’s friends apparently came from PPIS of the same year but have yet to confirm the class. Small world this is.

Maybe not, just Singapore and its obviously small Malay Muslim population.

I wonder where everybody is.

Blue_shakers

This bunch of misfits were once called the Blue Shakers circa 1998. We weren’t the best of players but we had heart. Unfortunately, none of us made to the National Squad.

It’s their loss. I think.

Fortunately,they found Khairul Amri instead.

Great job,boys!

Till later, keep ya hats on.

seconds to takeoff

hey hey…

From where i left off last month, things have changed for the better and life now is in its normalcy and I’m downright grateful for that. But it still needs a lil bit of work on it though. During my hiatus in KL for my translation course, things were abrewing behind the scenes and it boiled over the sides when I came back. Measures had to be taken and thankfully, we did.

December
But enough of that…I would love to share with yall the photos I took in KL for the course but unfortunately and regretfully, I have no idea where the memory card is. The course was good and informative but one thing for sure is that translation is not as easy as you might think it is. Then in mid-December, helped out with my cousin’s wedding and it was a joyous occasion as it should be. I became the pengiring again for the second consecutive time. Must be the looks, I guess.

January 2007

Happy New Year !!! Okay, that’s a belated one for everyone. Finally staged the D&D for my company as I was part of the committee and it was great but for a minor hiccup (Major actually if you consider the backlash it might generate in the long term). Went to watch John Legend at the Esplanade with malady the other day.Great performer he is, put on a good solid show that lasted almost a couple hours. The only gripe about it is he didn’t perform "Each Day Gets Better" from his new album.  Managed to catch a couple of movies since the turn of the year and they proved to be quite good for a start. "Borat" was undoubtedly the best comedy of 2006 and it nearly busted my guts laughing at it (My wife’s made the cheeze a with her tits!!) and managed to watch Guillermo del Toro’s beautifully scripted and colorful imagined "Pan’s Labyrinth" recently.

With February on the way, Insyallah I will be restarting my journey to get my BA soon with Monash University at the end of the month. I’ve yet to visit my friend in Jakarta  and should be planning to anytime soon.

God bless the people in Johor. Hope they keep well and strong.

Till later,keep ya hats on.

Ola

It’s been a month since I last posted something. I blame it on the haze. Or maybe I’ve been busy since I left yall the last time. The month passed quickly and without a hitch for my fasting. The season’s for reflection on what I’ve done for the past year and for the blissful happy people out there, Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Eid Mubarak is NOT Islam’s new year.

I’ve been contemplating deeply (I think) about what I really want and yes, I’ve brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people around me, unfortunately, I come with a baggage of sorrow too.Aside with the stereotypical and generic description of me being a "nice guy" and "brilliant as a friend" (I’ve never understood that part yet), I’ve come across people calling me brazen, nonchalant, blatant, nondescript and pan-faced with my comments and opinions. Yes, I may have the high capacity of self-criticism and insult threshold on par with treason but what I cannot fathom is the insecurities I feel whenever I don’t see eye-to-eye with something.

What is it with me and my nonsensical barrage of "gabbing"?

Is it wrong for me to say what I assume is rational?

Alas, nothing will answer me but I’ve figured that everyone was and will never be the same. One person to the next, are all different. That’s what makes everyone special though. My relatively conscious mind that makes everyone that means to me a lot more Special.

I seek everyone’s forgiveness for what I’ve said before and will in the future that may involuntarily cause hurt to you.

Selamat Hari Raya everyone.

Keep ya hats on.

Listening to :~ John Legend - Used To Love You

Hey…

Been observing some people lately and one particular person that I would like to highlight is a colleague of mine. While having a conversation, I was completely taken aback by the numerous amount of projects that she was involved in and how much time she puts into it. Yellow Ribbon project, writing for ST, advert sideline, transcribing jobs and enough time to keep herself fit at the gym (that’s not all, by the way).

I could never put myself through all that without getting a headache. In fact, I think I’m just too lazy to actually do all that even if it benefits me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s wonderful that she has such youthful exuberance to partake in all that. I admire it but sometimes inadvertently, it makes me reflect on my life and I feel that I’m not doing enough.

I want to buy a schedulebook and fill it up with different appointments and be involved.

I want to have my phone ring at different times of the day and be speaking about the next person that I would have to meet.

I want to be important to someone else.

I want to…wait…I’m just taking this too seriously.

I should take this slow.

And please people, I may be physically lazy and unmotivated, but I am not certainly slow in the mind (I assure yall that). In fact, I have shitload of projects in my head at this moment but they dont seem to be blasting off anywhere.

The list

1. The script I’ve been wanting to shoot. I can’t make the deadline but at least,Insyallah, it would be in its finality of it being produced. Sorry, Khirni.

2. A "passion" business proposal which has been lingering in my head. Couple of guys drop off from my mind as collaborators.

3. A webcomic idea. (I love aLp and thanks Zhak for the intro)

4. Learning to spin. Vinyls, I mean.

I am sure that at least one of them will work out. I hope.

For the time being, I will be around town to find inspiration for my new script that I’m working on. It’s a supernatural one.

Til Later,

Keep Ya Hats On.

Its time to bring SexyBack!

Hey,

First and foremost, I would like to thank Allah for letting me live for another year Alhamdulillah and blessing me, my family and my friends with good times and health and keeping me safe from all ill that lurks around. I am truly grateful for the life I have and hope to see more of it in the years to come InsyAllah.

With that poignant piece, I will embark, in the next few weeks, on a retrospective of places or memories I’ve had in this life of mine. I hope yall will appreciate what I will be posting in the next few weeks.

Spent yesterday or September 23rd with malady and we met at Marina Square for lunch which we thoroughly enjoyed eating udon and Kampong Satay sandwich at Too Hot Cafe near the Esplanade. There were a few people around and the quiet helped the ambience pretty much.

And off to Sentosa for some thrilling stuff we’d been wanting to try - the Sentosa Luge. Personally, I was a bit skeptical of the "exciting" stuff that SIngapore has to offer due to the overwhelming disappointed responses that come with it. I was expecting something of a 50 cent kiddy ride but surprisingly, it caught me out of the blue with the tremendous speed it can hit when you are going as fast as I was at one point. I nearly overturned, mind you, when hitting one of the chicanes. I felt like Schumi…minus the crimson blood frame and high tech F1 engine…but my helmet was red so maybe there was a hint of it. A ride was $8 including a lift on the Sky Ride after that. That itself is quite scary at one point as you have feet dangling 200 feet in the air and the seat reminded me of the swing chair that my Kampong relative(dunno which one) had in Johor and as a matter of fact, that thing fell apart. That didnt help for self-confidence obviously. But what I lack in myself, I made it up being a MAN in front of Sikin and I had to suck it up on the Sky Ride … That was until I started screaming like a little girl and gripped on the handlebars as if they were Man’s Real Best Friends (up to every man’s own discretion what that is);p

The next F1 champion, yall better recognize!

They need to get bigger sized helmets … L was not big enuf for my ‘fro … Can’t mess with the ‘fro!

230906_1800

I was actually having muscular spasm attack here at 200 feet high thus the clenched teeth and constipated smile.

And finally, the SexyBack of it all was the gift that Sikin got me! It was a "sick" Lacoste polo tee that I’d been eyeing for quite a while but never got close to buying it. And it was a slim-cut in SIze 2 and it would definitely bring out the sexiness in me.Now get the SexyBack!

Hey hey…

Went to womad last weekend with Zhak (he has more photos of it) to catch Jimmy Cliff and proved to be an entertaining night out. Contrary to some newspaper reports I read which emphasize people’s quite irrational response to the ticket pricing, food and quality of the show, I found it very well-run, organized and a fully enjoyable and diverse line-up of performances. Even though a friend of mine said Radio Mundial were really good, sadly, they weren’t performing that night. Considering the fact that we paid only $35 for a festival and the administration-hell that the organizers went through, we are lucky as my initial research of going to the Sonic Festival in Japan would set me back $185 for a ticket alone (But they have better acts in the first place so I wouldnt consider it pricey too). It’s just Singaporeans being Singaporeans…squeeze any and every amount we can get from something. Location-wise, Fort Canning is a really good place to hold such a kind of thing and it’s a great place to skate or BMX too…While relaxing on the grass with Zhak (no references to any trashy novels), I pondered that Fort Canning is a really freaky place to be without the extra 8000 bodies walking around. The trees, the underground tunnels, the forts, cannons and all the other stuff adds up to its eerieness. Thank goodness for the festival.

Some of the photos I took with my phone.
